I have started to adapt and debug a firmware for an IoT project a few month ago… This hardware is based on Atmel microcontroller, SIM 808 (GSM/GPRS).
The atmel environment (Atmel Studio) is using a specific version of Visual Studio. And it was a great pleasure to retrieve the similar environment for the development of embedded application.
